Mill believed that though God existed, he was either limited in power or was not entirely benevolent. Emily is a victim of the evil that is rampant in the world. She is haunted and possessed by evil spirits which take control of her after she leaves home for college. The whole idea of God being entirely benevolent is fogged up by the fact that Emily is overcome by the forces which are beyond her control, which are the evil spirits after she chooses to discontinue her medication and rely entirely on her faith in God to help her overcome the evil spirits that taunt her. In the film, Emily is overcome by forces which she cannot control. The forces turn out to be evil spirits. She is initially advised to use medi cation so that she can overcome these evil spirits which seem to be slowly taking control of her. She starts speaking in quire tongues and getting in to a trance where she starts being destructive and her behaviors become shocking. When in the trance, she has a tendency of destroying religious symbols and artifacts, a proof that she is possessed by forces that oppose religion. The whole ordeal begins one night when Emily encounters a strange burning smell which comes from the hall-way in her dorm room. She decides to go and see what is burning and in the process, she notices that the door shuts itself and opens several times. She then goes back to her room and in what seems to be like hallucinations, she sees her jar of pencils move by itself and her bedclothes rolling themselves down. She then experiences a great weight which seems to be pulling her down and at the same time choking her.This prompts her to leave school and go back home. Both her and her parents are now convinced th at she is possessed by demons and the only way that she can be helped is by performing an exorcism on her. The local parish priest, Father Moore, is called to perform the exorcism but unfortunately Emily does not make it out alive. Father Moore is arrested and charged with negligent homicide on Emily’s death. There are good reasons to suppose that Emily is sick and not possessed. After she encounters several more visions after her first, she is hospitalized and after tests, she is diagnosed with epilepsy. She is given medication to counter what is thought to be seizures but the anti-seizure medication is not of help to her. She still encounters her visions and bodily contortions which increase in severity. According to the doctor and the prosecution, Emily’s behaviors can be as a result of psychosis due to the visions that she encounters or epilepsy due to the severe bodily contortions. Another possible argument would be that Emily suffered from schizophrenia and is no t demon possessed. For example, during her exorcism, Emily named 6 demons that had possessed her and this could be a logical base for arguing out that her condition was not spiritual but more of mental illness. This is different in marriage – in marriage, the property is divided equitably between the spouses, regardless of the amount of financial contribution from the parties, or the lack thereof.4 This essay will examine the issues surrounding people who cohabit, as well as the specific cases regarding cohabitation, and will attempt to make recommendations that would help couples be better protected under the UK law. Cohabitation Law verses Marriage Law Property division is an issue when considering cohabitation law and marriage law. Cohabiting cou ples do not have the same property rights as married couples.5 Basically, if there is a cohabiting couple, and they break up, their property would be divided according to ordinary property law, which basically means that the property follows the title – if, for instance, there is a house with only one person's name on the deed, then that person alone is entitled to the property. If both person's name is on the deed, then the property would be divided between them evenly.6 With marital law, it is different – if a marital couple divorces, the property is divided between them equitably, regardless of whose name is on the deed.7 The Marital Causes Act 1973 gives a court the right to order the transfer of property from one party to the other upon the filing of a dissolution of marriage, or the court may also order the sale of property as well.8 This principle is shown in several cases that have been decided in UK Courts. One is Burns v. Burns, which states that if there is a non-working partner in a cohabiting relationship, and that non-working partner does not contribute financially towards the purchase of the house, or the mortgage payments, than that spouse is not entitled to a division of that property.9 The plaintiff in Burns lived with the defendant, without the benefit of marriage. Valerie, the plaintiff in Burns, took care of the children and stayed home, forgoing a career and money of her own. That said, when the relationship progressed Valerie went to work, and paid domestic bills from her salary, along with buying furniture and equipment for the house, while also spending money on children's clothes. She also decorated the interior of the house.10 Despite all that the plaintiff contributed to the household, the plaintiff did not get property rights in the house after the couple broke up. The dose is 1-3 mg, given every 15- 30 minutes. Continuous infusion of narcotics is better than intermittent bolus doses because it allows maintenance of constant blood levels of narcotics and the dosage requirement per day is also low. However, it requires careful monitoring of the patient and titration of doses. Patient controlled ana lgesia is a better option in this regard. Other modes of provision of analgesia include regional analgesia and epidural block. In intensive care patients, agitation affects atleast 71 percent of patients. Pain aggravates agitation. Other factors which contribute to increased agitation are anxiety, delirium and illness. In some cases, sedation also may lead to agitation (Siegel et al, 2003). Treatment of agitation is often neglected despite the fact that it is very important to treat agitation to improve clinical outcomes and fasten recovery.
